Camaweigh Precision Weights

Each weighing scale or equipment is grouped in their own classifications based on their weight class. Weighing scales can be classified as either Class l to lllL. Class l weighing scales are those which are used in the laboratories. This type of weighing scale or equipment measures weights in the milligrams unit or lower. As the Class goes further up so does the weight capacity of the weighing scales classified under them. Class lll weighing scales are those which have weighing capacity less than or equal to 30,000 lbs. These include vehicle weighing equipment like axle-load scales, crane scale, or weighbridges.

Test weights too have their own set of classifications. Test weights are classified depending on their tolerances. There are also three types of classification used; OIML, ASTM, and NIST. Each of these classifications has their specific weighing applications.

For example, NIST Class F test weights are used to calibrate trade scales. The classification of OIML test weights are E1, E2, F1, F2, M1, M2, and M3. OIML Class E1 test weights are considered the most accurate, while OIML Class M3 is the least.

Precision Weights Classification

Precision weights are test weights which are classified in the OIML Class M1, M2, and M3. Each of these classes is used to calibrate their designated weighing scales.

OIML Class M1 precision weights are used for calibration, testing, and adjusting of Class lll weighing scales which are commonly used for commercial uses. Class lll weighing scales are those which have a load capacity equal to 30,000 lbs. or less. OIML Class M2 precision weights are ones which are used in the calibration, testing, and adjusting of weighing scales under the Class ll classification. Class ll classified weighing scales are used to commercial uses. OIML Class M2 precision weights are used in general business together with Class lll commercial scales. OILM Class M3 precision weights are one which is used in the calibration, testing, and adjusting of weighing scales under the Class lll classification. This type of weighing scales is used for industrial purposes. Class lll weighing scales are ones which have a load of 30, 000 lbs. or less. OIML Class M3 precision weights are also used with industrial scales of Class lllL and commercial scales of Class lll. These precision weights can be used in load testing of crane and elevators

Determining Precision Weights

There are different test weights and it is very hard to determine each of their weights without using actual scales. This is why manufacturers put markings on test weights as indications of their values. Precision weights which are one gram up to 500 grams have their nominal value marked on them. They are also marked with the unit symbol for gram, “g”. Precision weights which are 1 kg and greater have their nominal value marked on them as well as the symbol for the unit of kilogram, “kg”. Another way of determining precision weights from others is based on their material. Precision weights are also marked with their OIML class. “M” or “M1”, “M2”, “M3” or “X” are the markings for OIML Class M1, M2, and M3 respectively. Precision weights of the OIML can have the same nominal values embedded on them. To avoid any confusion of mix up with the classifications, dots are used. The number of dots corresponds to their respective OIML classification.

Applications of High Precision Weights

Precision weights of OIML Class M1, M2, and M3 are used in calibrating weighing scales under Class ll and Class lll. Class ll weighing scales are those which are used in laboratories and commercial uses. Class lll are weighing scales used in commercial and industrial applications. Camaweigh offers a wide range of precision weights. You can choose from precision weights ranging from 1 mg up to 10 kg max.
